I was recently looking through an old journal for something else entirely, yet came across this title and author scribbled on one of the pages. All a bit overdone, even if one can’t deny the author, seeing that Poland’s post-war history was better than its wartime history only in the absence of mass killings, had reasons to convey profound pain with a cry of despair.

And she szczyypiorski beautiful. The first edition of The Beautiful Mrs. But that will pass with time. Szczypiorski would chew me out for it.

Published March 21st by Grove Press first published If you have not become enticed, well then perhaps this book isn’t for you. Maybe this sounds very upsetting and tumultuous, but it isn’t. There is a great sense of time and place, but at the same time a sense of the continuity of history. Even through moments of total horror, it’s at the worst times we need to reflect that good people do good things, all of the time, and can make difference in that monumental thing we call life.

Warsaw in was Nazi-occupied, times are fucking shitty, people are even fucking shittier, and there’s this beautiful Mrs. We will lack only one thing. He looks like the perfect candidate for the compassionate humanist, with his classical background, his Lucian and Tacitus, but on the other hand, he finds Mrs Seidenman extremely attractive.

Though this is the framework for the novel, each chapter looks at a different person living in Warsaw at the time–from Mrs S-G as she goes by after the war, living in Paristo Pawel a teen who plays a part in her rescueto her academic next door neighbor Mr Korba who sets the ball rolling, and has no idea that she actually is Jewishto a street criminal.

All right, we’re not free. There are no discussion topics on this book yet. Lovers of great literary novels. Seidenman, but rather about a group of characters, loosely connected by her. A choreography worthy of an Oscar.

I have no memory of writing it down, and it’s interesting to me that I wrote it there to begin with since I have a separate little notebook I write down titles that I want to read one day.
